Shady Records Issues Statement On Obie’s Departure
June 30th, 2008

Following the heavy circulation of Obie Trice’s new single “The Giant” signaling the Detroit rapper’s departure from his situation with Shady Records and it’s parent company, Interscope, the brass at Shady issued a statement Monday (Jun 30) reaffirming its support of Trice’s decision.

“Shady Records has agreed to allow Obie Trice to pursue his craft in a different forum free from the constraints of the current major label model,” Eminem’s long time partner and manager Paul Rosenberg told AllHipHop.com.

Sources on the web have erroneously reported that the new explanatory track released to the web on Sunday (Jun 29) included lyrics meant as a diss to his former label and Eminem, who added Trice to the label’s roster in 2000.

At issue was the song’s opening verse, on which Trice raps “Guess it was meant / for me to branch off from my Caucasian friend” and “Nope, no more 2nd place to Eminem / question if I was 2nd is the question to many men.” (Listen here)

“Eminem will continue to support and work with Obie on many levels of his career,” Rosenberg stated frankly. “He remains a close friend and member of the Shady family.”

During his time as a Shady/Interscope artist, Obie Trice’s two albums which were well received critically, established the artist as Eminem’s heir apparent.

The first, 2003’s Cheers, sold over 500,000 copies worldwide, while its follow-up Second Round’s On Me found slightly less commercial support.

Eminem Pranks LL Cool J, Says He’s Currently Working On New Music
June 11th, 2008

Eminem recently made an appearance on his Sirius radio station Shade 45. Slim Shady called into the Tony Touch show while LL Cool J was on. Pretending to be a caller “Jason” from Miami, he challenged LL to a game of “name that tune.” LL Cool J agreed to the game, not knowing it was Eminem on the phone. After a few rounds, LL said “You sound good saying them joints. Damn, B. That sounds like you need to write some bars, homie.” Eminem finally gave up who he was by saying some lines from his own track, “Lose Yourself.”

Eminem went on to admit being a fan of LL’s since childhood and asked him to hang out and watch the NBA finals. “Listen, man, you got this relationship with Dre. You’re cool with 50, so when are we gonna hang out? I got cable at my house, and the game is on.” Eminem went on to say he is currently working in the studio on new music. “Everything is good. I’m just in the studio now working on songs.”

50 Cent On Eminem: ‘He’s Gonna Look Real Good When You See Him Return’
April 27th, 2008

50 Cent wants you to know that despite what you may have heard, his good pal Eminem is not — as one tabloid so delicately put it — “starting to look like an M&M.”

In a recent sit-down with MTV News’ Tim Kash, 50 laughed off recent rumors that Em — who has all but disappeared from the public eye in recent years — has been packing on the pounds, and that as a result of his weight gain, has become a recluse, venturing out of his Detroit-area mansion only to gorge himself on meals from Taco Bell and Outback Steakhouse. The G-Unit captain insisted that fans are going to be seeing a slim-and-trim Eminem real soon.

“Em is in shape right now. He looks good. I seen him in Detroit. He’s gonna look real good when you see him return,” Fif laughed. “He’s in shape right now.”

The rapper has been on hiatus ever since releasing his official Shady Records mixtape, Eminem Presents the Re-Up, in December of 2006. In mid-2007, he called in to Angie Martinez’s show on New York radio station Hot 97 to say he was “in limbo” and “debating” whether to release another album. Then, in January of this year, news broke that he had been rushed to a Detroit-area hospital for complications related to pneumonia, and in at least one of those reports, sources were quoted as saying his weight had exceeded 200 lbs.

Those rumors — coupled with a National Enquirer story that quoted an “insider” as saying that the rapper “[has] got a double chin, a potbelly and droopy man-breasts. And he’s living a reclusive lifestyle in an attempt to hide his new body” — had fans worried about Eminem. But 50, who in recent weeks has battled rumors about his own weight thanks to online photos that show him looking extra gaunt, said that those worries are unfounded. According to him, Em’s fine and in fighting shape (or at least, balling shape).

“The last time I seen him we played basketball together,” 50 said. “He had a knee injury, so we chilled for a little bit.”

Bobby Creek Talks Upcoming LP, Shady Records, Eminem
March 24th, 2008

After appearing on several tracks on Shady Records’ mixtape/album The Re-Up over a year ago, Bobby Creek has been seldom heard from. Recently, the Atlanta native with HipHopDX at the A3C festival to discuss his current situation at Shady Records:

Everything’s beautiful, man. Em’s working on his next project, and everybody’s getting’ geared up for that. So everything’s beautiful.” Creek continued, “I’ll say this…everybody over at that label takes music seriously. They’re perfectionists, and they understand that first impressions are everything. If our projects take a little longer than people would like, just know that we’re making impactful [sic] music so we can make the impression we need to make. The music is going to be worth it for the fans – the wait will be worth it.

The rapper spoke on his upcoming projects as well. “I’m working on A Brilliant Mistake, Em is working on his LP, and we’re having talks about possibly doing a ‘Re-Up 2.’ My mixtape series Anthem 2 Da Streetz…volume 3 [is] coming out soon, sooner than everything else. Shady Records, we got a lot comin’. I can’t speak on everything because I don’t want to spoil the movie for ya’ll – this is a motion picture. There’s a lot to look forward to. D12, they’re working. Obie [Trice], he’s working. We’re all working.” As for a release date for his album, Creek offered only that the label is “pushing for a…fall release.

Finally, Bobby Creek addressed rumors about label head Eminem’s supposed massive weight gain. “[There] must be two [Eminems], because the Em I just saw is in perfectly good shape. [I] saw him recently playing a pickup basketball game, so I don’t know much about the 250-pound Em; I missed that, I didn’t see that guy. No truth to those rumors whatsoever.

He’s focused, basically,” said Creek of Eminem. “He understands he’s been away for a while, and that he’s got to come back that much harder. He’s focused – 110 percent. Y’all should expect that; he’s been away for a while, and he’s got a statement to make.
