The clip below is Jim Jonsin on Eminem’s first impression of YelaWolf.  Who is Jim Jonsin?  Jim Jonsin is a producer from Palm Beach who has produced a couple songs your ear drums might find familiar such as TI’s “Whatever You Like”, Lil Wayne’s “Lollipop”, and Soulja Boy Tell ‘Em’s “Kiss Me Thru the Phone”.

Honestly, after seeing YelaWolf’s video “Pop the Trunk” I’m not too impressed but I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt since Em seemed to be impressed.   YelaWolf is very open to a collaboration with his rap superstar label mate, Eminem. He said,

“I’ve probably been through every label in the past couple of years,” laughs YelaWolf. “I don’t think we missed any. But after SXSW, it just got really heated, you know? Prior to that we had taken a few meetings, but we decided to just hold out and go knock it out there, see where it took us…I think it’s completely fair, especially now that I’m at Interscope [to be compared to Em.] There’s only been one internationally successful white rapper, so it’s human nature. Obviously I don’t know him as a person yet, but based on his lyrics and the music that he’s put out, there’s definitely a common ground of troubles. I’m absolutely up for it. I would love to work with Em. I’m a fan, so I’m definitely going to pitch it. I gotta take advantage of where I’m at.” (Billboard)

Yelawolf – Pop The Trunk

Nate of course says Eminem was his main inspiration for his style.  He definitely does sound a lot like Em in terms of his voice but obviously his lyrics don’t even come close.  What makes Eminem so special is well…he is special, he is unique and something the music industry had never seen or heard before.  So far Nate just sounds like anything you would hear on the radio if you ever listen to it anymore; rapping about clubs, bottles, and girls.  Coming out under Eminem’s shadow is going to be tough to say the least but some serious perks come from having a platinum artist as your brother. For one, you know for sure that the album is going to have some sick beats and two, you are going to some big artists dropping bars just to get on Em’s good side.  Nate is due to perform live on February 27th at Detroit’s Majestic Theatre. Also checkout Nate Mather’s MySpace, he seems pretty angry, like they say the apples does not fall far from the tree.

A bit about the man: Posner grew up in Southfield, Michigan and has been making beats since he was 13. Yup he is only 21 years old and is a senior at Duke University so he is obviously a pretty sharp dude. “I never even told him this, but I remember that Eminem came into the studio when we made ‘Moment of Clarity,’ which he produced, on The Black Album. So here’s Eminem. It’s 2003, I think The Eminem Show had come out, and he was like the biggest rapper in the world—he sold like 20 million records worldwide or some ridiculous number. But when he came to the studio, I remember I hugged him, and I could feel that he had on a bulletproof vest. I couldn’t imagine being that successful. I mean, he’s a guy who loves rap and wanted to be successful his whole career. Then he finally gets it, and there’s this dark cloud over him.”
